How important are clothes? Very important, I’d argue.  They do so much more for us than make sure we are weather- and socially- appropriate.  When we are comfortable in our clothes we stand taller and become more comfortable in our skin.  A well-fitted dress can be the difference between standing along a wall, hitching up straps, and putting our hands up as we shimmy in the middle of a dance floor. Pant legs that stop exactly where we want them to can literally change our stride. Altering our clothes is one way to love ourselves, and mending them is how we love them back.

Alterations

Have something that is almost right, but not quite? It’s easy to make things smaller, and sometimes I can make them bigger.

Refashioning

Do you have something you only love a part of? Maybe that dress would make a better skirt, or you’d like to see what kind of baby your two shirts might have.

Who I Am

My name is Alana, and I’m a maker and fixer at heart. I got my first sewing machine in 1991, and my first sewing business in 2016, with many a craft wedged in between. Sewhistler lasted until 2022 when I moved from Whistler to Kimberley. Since then my sewing has been mostly for my family; now that the dust has settled I am ready to start sewing for others again.
